A Beginner’s Guide to Pegging for Couples

How to talk about it, gear up, and start slow.

Pegging is when a partner wearing a strap-on penetrates their male partner anally. It’s grown far more openly talked about in recent years — and for many couples it’s a way to explore prostate pleasure and a playful shift in dynamic. If you’re both curious, here’s how to start comfortably.

Bringing it up

Because pegging still carries some outdated stigma, the conversation matters most. Lead with curiosity rather than pressure — “I read about this and I’m curious, is it something you’d want to explore?” Make it clear there’s no expectation either way; you’re just opening the door.

The gear

  • A comfortable, adjustable harness that fits the wearer well.
  • A beginner-sized dildo with a flared base — start small, you can always size up.
  • Plenty of thick water-based or silicone lube (match the lube to the toy material).

Taking it slow

The same rules as any anal play apply: relaxation and warm-up are everything. Begin with fingers or a small toy to help the receiving partner open up, keep lube generous, and let the receiver control the pace and depth — many couples start with the receiver “backing onto” the toy so they’re in charge. Communicate constantly.

A quick note: Only ever use toys with a flared base, go slowly the first few times, and stop if there’s pain. Clean toys thoroughly between uses and don’t move from anal to vaginal contact without washing or swapping condoms.

Check you’re both curious first

Pegging works best when it’s a genuine shared “yes,” not something one person talked the other into. Our quiz lets you both mark it privately and only surfaces it if you’re both open — an easy, pressure-free way to find out where you stand.

Take the quiz together. You each answer privately, then see exactly where you match — and keep everything else to yourselves.
